Tony Durham, Resident in Counseling

Tony Durham Jr., Resident in Counseling

Hello, I’m Tony T. Durham Jr., a Resident in Counseling and former U.S. Army service member. I believe strongly in personal growth, resilience, and second chances.

I chose counseling because I want to help people navigate life’s challenges, recognize their strengths, and move toward becoming the best version of themselves. Everyone has a story worth hearing, and sometimes meaningful change begins with having someone who will listen, understand, and support you along the way.

Who I Work With

I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, veterans, active-duty military members, men, parents, and individuals navigating difficult life transitions.

I have a particular passion for working with men who may have difficulty expressing emotions, managing stress, balancing family responsibilities, or asking for support.

As a former U.S. Army service member, I also understand many of the unique challenges that veterans, service members, and military families can experience, including deployment-related stress, reintegration, identity changes, family responsibilities, and adjusting to civilian life.

Whether you are a teenager trying to understand who you are, a parent navigating family challenges, a veteran adjusting to a new chapter, or an adult looking for direction, my goal is to meet you where you are without judgment.

Areas I Help With

I work with clients experiencing concerns such as:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Trauma

  • Grief and loss

  • Anger management

  • Stress

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Family conflict

  • Low self-esteem

  • Life transitions

  • Emotional regulation

  • Adolescent behavioral concerns

  • Peer and social difficulties

  • Men’s mental health

  • Military and veteran adjustment

  • Reintegration into civilian life

  • Identity and purpose

I am especially interested in helping people who feel overwhelmed, emotionally disconnected, misunderstood, stuck, or uncertain about what comes next.

My Approach to Counseling

My approach is person-centered, collaborative, practical, and honest.

I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you explore your experiences in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment while helping you identify patterns, strengths, and opportunities for change.

I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize unhelpful thought patterns, better understand their emotions, and develop healthier ways of responding to difficult situations.

When appropriate, my style is conversational and direct. I believe counseling can include encouragement and empathy while also providing accountability and honest feedback.

Together, we can identify realistic goals, build on the strengths you already have, and develop practical tools that can help create meaningful change outside of the therapy room.

What You Can Expect Working With Me

When you work with me, you can expect a real conversation in a space where you can speak openly without worrying about being judged.

Some sessions may involve laughter. Others may involve difficult conversations, challenging old patterns, or facing truths that are uncomfortable but important.

I believe meaningful growth requires both support and accountability.

Because change does not happen only during the counseling session, I may also provide reflection exercises, meaningful homework, coping strategies, or practical activities to use between appointments. These tools allow you to apply what we discuss to real-life situations and give us an opportunity to review what worked, what did not, and what you learned from the experience.

Most importantly, I want you to leave our sessions feeling heard, respected, supported, appropriately challenged, and prepared to take meaningful steps toward your goals.

Telehealth & In-Person Availability

I provide both telehealth and in-person counseling for adolescents and adults, based on your needs and appointment availability.

Whether we meet virtually or face-to-face, my goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where you feel comfortable discussing what is happening in your life and working toward meaningful change.

You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning counseling, and you do not have to face every challenge alone.

Meaningful change often begins with simply taking the first step.

If you are ready to better understand yourself, overcome obstacles, strengthen your relationships, or work toward greater personal growth, I would welcome the opportunity to work with you.
